Ana's Story
Opening Plenary Session

Preschool Nutrition Conference

Greensboro, NC

Ana's Story was a plenary session that wove together actual stories from members of the represented agencies.

The play began with Ana introducing herself to the audience.

"You know what they say, a picture says a thousand words…and I am a very proud mama so I have brought a few pictures from our family album that I would like to share with you, so you can meet my family and friends.  Then I will tell you about a very special thing that happened to us, just this past year.  I think it was like a miracle really…but first, let me show you my pictures…"

Ana's story unfolded in short vignettes as she shared her photo album with the audience.

The actors were staff members from the participating agencies.

We can develop a plenary presentation or an interactive breakout session.

Just an example...

In 2002, the North Carolina Statewide Preschool Nutrition Conference Planning Committee commissioned a play for their annual statewide, multi-system nutrition conference. (approx. 700 in attendance)

This unique plenary session was designed to:

  • Introduce the conference topics.
  • Facilitate a deeper understanding of issues facing Latino families and those who serve them.
  • Foster greater communication and collaboration among staff from:
    • Women, Infants and Children's (WIC) program,
    • local and state nutrition programs, and
    • child and adult day care programs.
